The main findings support that emergence has a direct relationship with collaboration and action performed by different actors. Based on the results, this study also proposes a research agenda and discusses directions for researchers and practitioners dealing with emergent systems in the health domain. This article aims to review the literature of emergent systems in healthcare to investigate the plurality of terms and approaches and synthesize definitions and properties for these systems and technologies. However, once the emergent systems and technologies do not follow a planned and managed process, it is difficult to understand how they can be applied. As a result, a myriad of technological devices and applications emerged in the hands of health care practitioners, patients, and laypeople. The digital transformation has enabled substantial technological innovations in the health care practice.
